Princeton SAT Scores: Full Breakdown

Princeton University, one of the oldest (and best) universities in the country, wants only the best students. This article breaks down Princeton's SAT expectations. Be sure to check out our other posts for more!

SAT Score Range

  • Composite average: 1540
  • 25th percentile: 1490
  • 75th percentile: 1570

This shows that while many Princeton students score well into the 1500s, a few score below 1500. So, there's obviously lots of variation, but many scores are going to be on the higher end.

Section Breakdown

  • Evidence-Based Reading & Writing (EBRW): average 755, middle 50% roughly between 730 and 780
  • Math: average 785, ranging from 750 to 800

Both sections are important, but high performance across the board helps you stand out.

Testing Policy

As of the fall 2025 admissions (Class of 2029), Princeton requires standardized testing: you can submit SAT or ACT scores.

  • Princeton does not require the SAT Essay or Subject Tests.
  • Scores may be self-reported initially, but official reports are necessary after enrollment.

What This Means for You

Aiming for a composite SAT in the 1490–1570 range with R+W above 730 and Math above 750 definitely makes you fit in with the rest of the admits' scores. But don't forget that amazing activities, essays, and recommendations play a huge role.
