SAT Score Range
- Composite average: 1525
- 25th percentile: 1470
- 75th percentile: 1570
This range means a quarter of students scored below 1470, while another quarter scored above 1570, showing a wide spread, but an extremely high median.
Section Breakdown
- Evidence-Based Reading & Writing (EBRW): average 740, with a range typically between 700 and 770
- Math: average 780, ranging from 740 to 800
While Stanford wants high scores, good activities outside academics also make a difference.
Testing Policy
Stanford has reinstated a testing requirement for fall 2025 applicants (Class of 2029), accepting either SAT or ACT scores.
- They do not require SAT Essay or Subject Tests.
- Students can self-report scores for initial review; official results are needed if admitted.
What This Means for You
An SAT score between 1470–1570, with R+W scores above 700 and Math scores above 740, puts you in Stanford's middle 50%. But Stanford's holistic review means essays, extracurriculars, and awards can matter as much as test scores.
